Starting today, DistroKid members can upload songs mixed in Dolby Atmos to Apple Music and Tidal.
For artists, Dolby Atmos is a new way to think about mixing: instead of panning tracks left-ish and right-ish as a typical stereo mix, with Atmos each track is its own “object” that you can move around 3D space during the mixing process.
Dolby Atmos sounds cool with full Atmos multi-speaker setups and with regular stereo (two-channel) headphones and speakers. Spatial Audio on Apple Music helps make this possible.
As always, DistroKid is the first major distributor to offer this and more to independent artists.
- To mix your tracks with Dolby Atmos: download the Dolby Atmos Music Panner VST plugin for your DAW and/or Dolby Atmos Production Suite (learn more)
- To upload your Dolby Atmos tracks to DistroKid: sign in to DistroKid, go to the upload form, and select the “Dolby Atmos” checkbox
After you upload, your Dolby Atmos tracks will go live on streaming services that support it—and will be regular, two-channel audio on platforms that don’t.
Your release will get a special “Dolby Atmos” logo on Apple Music too, which is cool.
As a bonus, Apple Music is rolling out lossless streaming with no action necessary from artists. If you have music on Apple Music, it'll be included in lossless automatically and for free.
Enjoy!
